Oh that God would give every mother a vision of the glory and splendor of the work that is given to her when a babe is place in her bosom to be nursed and trained! Could she have but one glimpse in to the future of that life as it reaches on into eternity; could she look into it's soul to see its possibilities; could she be made to understand her own personal responsibility for the training of this child, for the development of its life, and for its destiny,--she would see that in all God's world there is no other work so noble and so worthy of her best powers, and she would commit to no others hands the sacred and holy trust given to her." -JR Miller

Controlling your spirit

Proverbs 16:32

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.

This was in my daily readings yesterday, and it really stood out to me. It is not easy to control your spirit, emotions run out of control quickly. I'm struggling, I openly admit, being pregnant and tired and trying to raise godly children sometimes seems too hard a challenge. But I must remember that God always gives us the power to do what He has commanded us too!

So, although ruling your spirit is much likely more difficult than capturing a city (it is, honest) we can do it, by putting on the new man, taking deep breaths and trying to think before we speak!

It does also make for a more pleasant life, less stress if you can keep your emotions under control - who wants to live with a woman who is always stressing? People soon have enough of that sort of unpleasantness. And children will pick it up, you will soon see them shouting first and thinking later. So I encourage you, along with myself to meditate on this verse and think before we speak/shout!
