Breast feeding
Breast feeding -the natural way to feed - but what happens when it's not that natural? When things go wrong? After my last baby, I did everything I could to exclusively breastfeed - seriously - pumping, putting baby to the breast practically continually - I was exhausted and by day 10 my milk hadn't come in and I was advised after seeing a specialist that I needed to give her formula - I was devastated as you can imagine, as I am so pro breast feeding and I love it. So.... this time around my dh and family have been a little worried that I would end up in the same state :-( but knowing this time around that I have a problem with lactation I got formula ready and decided that I would try mixed feeding, as obviously my baby's need something extra and I was ready (although still sad about it) that breast feeding might not work out so I would go with the baby's flow and follow her lead - well the first two days I thought that maybe I wouldn't be able to breastfeed as she just wasn't interested and so I gave her formula but on about day 3 I thought I'd try again on the breast and she took to it! We are now on day 5/6 (I can never remember how they work it out) and although I am still having to give some formula I actually managed to give her just breast and she was settled for a couple of hours which is a big thing for me. So now I'm trying not to get too excited but I'm on dom perridon (not sure of the spelling) and I'm getting a breast pump tomorrow just to give me chance to boost milk supply. Obviously I don't think we'll really know whether things are working until a couple of weeks but any breast feeding I do I am enjoying and just trying to relax about it all knowing that my beautiful baby is contented and happy so whatever happens she will thrive!!
