Oh that God would give every mother a vision of the glory and splendor of the work that is given to her when a babe is place in her bosom to be nursed and trained! Could she have but one glimpse in to the future of that life as it reaches on into eternity; could she look into it's soul to see its possibilities; could she be made to understand her own personal responsibility for the training of this child, for the development of its life, and for its destiny,--she would see that in all God's world there is no other work so noble and so worthy of her best powers, and she would commit to no others hands the sacred and holy trust given to her." -JR Miller

Healthy LIving

I am on a mission - it's taken me a while to get back to this place after having Abigail and a really tough year but I am here - ready to get back into shape and tackle the unhealthy habits I had fallen into!
After the birth of my fourth child I worked really hard and managed to lose 3 stone - it felt really good but pregnancy and breastfeeding took a toll and slowly after Abigail was born the weight crept back on. I did try a couple of times to exercise and eat well but during the first 6 months any extra exercise affected my milk supply (which I had an issue with anyway) and after that the other pressures of life just crowded out any thought of exercise. I have a tendency to comfort eat - and that would usually be late at night once the children were in bed and I was feeling down (not much sleep in the first year didn't really help)

But now, I am feeling back on top of things, Abigail is sleeping reasonably well in her own cot most nights and a very good friend lent me a book, Eat Well, Lose Weight While Breastfeeding and it helped to inspire me.

If you have been following my blog for a while, you will be aware that I suffer with PCOS - a condition which affects fertility, hormones and your metabolism (to name but a few) - so losing weight really is a big challenge to me and because it isn't as simple as eat less, lose weight (because of the metabolism problems)  I am focusing on getting fit and eating the right nutrition rather than losing weight - that way it's harder to get discouraged!

I figure that it's important to be getting the right nutrients in me as, to make the milk for Abigail (yes we're still breastfeeding and loving it) my body is being drained of nutrients and if I don't replace them then I'm gonna suffer - with tiredness etc

So, I have been exercising every morning this week (the exercise helps turns fat into muscle which is much more effective at burning calories and without exercise there is no real hope for me to lose weight) and I have cut out all the biscuits and chocolate bars and am concentrating on eating fruit and veg - making a meal planner (at least for tea) has helped a lot as if I know what I am going to do I don't have to think about it (in which case I would probably make bad choices), and I have made my first banana and spinach smoothine in a while this morning - bursting with iron and goodness!

I may put up a before picture later - so you can see (and me) my progress but I'm not promising as I really don't like pictures of myself at the moment! Another reason to put all my effort into this mission lol.
