Oh that God would give every mother a vision of the glory and splendor of the work that is given to her when a babe is place in her bosom to be nursed and trained! Could she have but one glimpse in to the future of that life as it reaches on into eternity; could she look into it's soul to see its possibilities; could she be made to understand her own personal responsibility for the training of this child, for the development of its life, and for its destiny,--she would see that in all God's world there is no other work so noble and so worthy of her best powers, and she would commit to no others hands the sacred and holy trust given to her." -JR Miller

Unschooling Links

I thought I would do a post with some of my favourite unschooling links for those of you who are interested in exploring this way of life a little more.

This one is full of information, it answers a lot of questions we may have about what unschooling is and how different things work if we're adopting an unschooling lifestyle

This one has lots of articles to explore and shows how christianity and unschooling CAN go together

This one too has some really good information about the philosophy of unschooling and christianity and talks about John Holt

Sandra Dodd is what is known as a "radical unschooler"  here is a defination taken from her blog
Unschooling will look different in different families, and "radical unschooling" simply means extending the philosophy of unschooling (that children will learn what they need to know when they are ready and want to learn it)into every other aspect of life (i.e. children will go to sleep when they are tired, eat when they are hungry, and will learn to be a functioning, helpful member of a family/household without being forced/required to do things like chores, given punishments, limited on tv/videogames, etc.)

John Holt was one of the leading figures in the unschooling community, after being a public school teacher for 26 years he wrote books on the problems with the system and really challenged what "education" really is

These are just some of the links out there and most sites have their own "links" too

Happy Reading!!
